Lets Get Fired Up!!!

In class, we are doing a whole project on a current issue that is a problem in the US today. The main focus of the project is just for you to really express how you feel towards that specific topic. Our group has chosen the topic of college tuition being too high. A long with that fact that you are supposed to express how you feel about the topic, we are also learning how to give a good presentation, and how to get our point across so that the listen will be interested. Throughout the weeks the project has gone on our teacher has shown us examples of people presenting, and blogs on certain subjects that they firmly believe in. What we as a group get the most out of those examples is that, if you do not feel passionate towards what you are fighting for, then what is the point? And that is the question we ask ourselves everyday we walk into that classroom and get on the computer to do our research, powerpoint, etc. So to talk about college tuition being too high is something that really grinds our gears as people because we are in the situation of paying those high costs. We are seniors in high school and graduation is very close(thank god!) and with all the celebration that comes with graduating, we have that thought in our back of our heads that, “Wow, we have to pay a lot of money for the next four years of our lives just to get an education so we can be successful in life.” And with that thought comes a whole lot of stress because after you graduate college you are going to be in a huge amount of debt which will take about 7-8 years to pay off. To be honest with this economy there is no way in hell that someone will be in a good spot coming out of college unless you marry into money or that your family is rich. From personal experience I do not plan on marrying rich, and my family is far from being rich. So what do the people like me do? We get loans up the wazoo and then have debt going in the same direction. When people ask us, why are you doing this topic? We can easily say all this because it is what we truly believe, and what we want. We do not want to pay so much money for four years, and then pay even more for the next eight. So to be fired up about something is good because the fight in you will never die until you reach what you are fighting for.

Difficult Payment Methods

From one of the google alerts that we received we found an article that highlights the rising cost of tuition and the necessity for parents to begin saving as early as possible. The workplace is becoming more and more competitive for young people so the importance of a college education is rising along with it. Although a college education is becoming critical, the cost of it is overwhelming to whoever is in charge of paying for it. On top of the education being expensive, it shows no slowing down in price increase. Over the past decade college tuition has risen faster than the rate of inflation and that is a scary thing to think about as some of us are yet to enroll. If college tuition keeps rising at the rate that it has been, by the time the next generation comes around college will not be affordable for anyone but the wealthiest of people. Even at this point, investing is becoming a much larger part of people’s thoughts when trying to pay for college. Making the right investment long before their child is even close to in college is what some parents are needing to do just to have enough money to afford the college expenses. The big problem with investing in stocks though is that they constantly fluctuate and there is no way to be sure that your stocks will be worth more at the time the student is ready to go off to school. This is because “tuition payments will not wait because your stocks lost out because of a market crash”. Instability in the stock market makes it nearly impossible to be sure that it will be a solid way to come up with money for college. This article shows some ways to pay for college, but it also shows that many of these ways can be difficult or instable. A college education is absolutely necessary in this day in age and if the prices do not stop increasing, the cost will make education out of reach for many citizens.

The Harsh Reality of the Money, College, and Time Love Triangle

We were searching around the internet and researching about the high costs of college tuition and we came across a website that brings up one question; are you for or against a certain subject. And obviously the question was is the cost of college too high? Everyone that had something to say on the website seemed to be for the lowering of income except this one person. His or her argument was mainly based off how there are many cheap local schools that kids are able to attend. Also he or she was saying how the cheap schools are about 5000 grand a year and how that can be paid off by the kids working during the summer or on weekends. After reading this comment on the whole situation we all just looked at each other and we dumbfounded by the comment. First of all when you are in college you do not have time to get a job on the weekends to pay for your tuition. Some kids in college are taking really difficult classes that require to study and get work done on the weekends. Especially if you are a freshman or sophomore because those years are the most valuable times to get your life together. They need to focus on their future rather than paying for something they cannot afford. He or she also says that it is a fairly easy choice to not go to a big school over a small school because of the money. But what he or she does not realize is that by going to a big school makes your resume that much better. Some might argue as long as you have a college degree you are set, and we agree with that, but that is like saying race does not play a role in hiring as well(but that is a whole other subject to rant about). With that said if we were able to comment on this website, we would have to disagree with what that person has said about the high costs of tuition nowadays. Here is the link if you have the guts to question this person's thoughts:http://www.forandagainst.com/College_Tuition_Is_Too_High

Debt=Unreal

In today’s world education is not a cheap commodity. The average cost of a private, four year university is $26,273 and the average cost of a four year, public university is $7,020 (that’s in state). These high prices leave almost 60% of all college students in an average debt of $22,700. In today’s economy the ability to pay this back has diminished. Most people go into college planning to get a job straight out of college, work to pay their debts and continue with their life. The high price tag for college and the economy has left students pondering what to do next. People who need graduate degrees to pursue their careers are left with even darker situation. They could plan to work a couple of years to pay off some of their undergraduate debt but what if that does not pan out? Lawyers, doctors, and veterinarians average a debt of $100,000 when they are through their education. These jobs are vital to our society and these large amounts of debt will scare many people away from trying to pursuit these careers. College is supposed to be a foundation for the young people in our country to be able to grow and help the society and the economy. By charging high costs we are limiting who can go to college and how someone can move on from college on the right foot. Colleges are constantly paying to upgrade their facilities and buildings to try to be the best in the nation and constant increase in the payment of instructional faculty are reasons for these prices. As the percentage of kids who attend college is on the rise you can only expect the cost of college to be on the rise.
